I enjoyed reading about your touring Little Rocks beer cultural avenues. If you managed to get to Vinos, Flying Saucer, Diamond Bear Brewery and Boscos, you pretty much covered what you needed to do Beer Cultural wise.

A tip about my favorite place Vinos though: Their speciality is the Calzones not the pizza.

I did the same thing, bought the True Brew kit, including an extra glass carboy i ferment in. HomeBrewing for Dummies was an excellent read:) I have made 6 batches with no failed batches or off flavors. A less expensive way to sanitize is by using medical grade Iodine, amber colored water works best, requires no rinsing. I can't taste the Iodine in the beer. Happy Brewing

Midwest is a good place to purchase your supplies, I get stuff from there now and then, but I prefer to support my local shop...

Hi, I just stumbled in from biobrain.blogspot.com. Indirectly, anyway. He has some sort of stock market thing with a list of beer blogs and I clicked on this one. Very nice blog here, BTW.

I just do partial mash, believe it's called. Steep the grains, etc. I live in an apartment and all grain seems too complex anyway. I've settled on an amber ale after flitting from trying this and that.

Never used the dummies book, tho I like many of their books. I use John Palmer's How to Brew which is very good. And I get supplies from Midwest who are very good to deal with.

Howdy! Just stumbled across your blog while looking for information on starting into homebrew. I actually LIVE in Maine, about 2 blocks from another gritty's location. Your food and drink selections aren't actually the best they offer. The 21 IPA is their least inspiring brew imho. If you make it back to Maine, and it sounds like you might, try their Boathouse Brown or their Black Fly Stout, both much better and personal favorites of mine. Also steer clear of their burger next time and try their Sweet Potato Cheddar pork fries. Sweet potato fries, covered with pulled pork and melted cheese. Served with maple sour cream (which is an amazing and unexpected pairing) this meal sized appetizer is my favorite item on their menu!

It was our pleasure to sample and review your brew! I concur with your style selection. As I indicated in my tasting notes, it definitely reminds me of a Barleywine of sorts... And it is indeed malty and strong...

I think Ted did a pretty good job with his first beer tasting... :-)

It's good to see that you enjoyed it. While Beer Advocate has it listed as an American Amber Lager, we think of it more as an American Strong Lager/Barleywine-inspired Lager. Super malty, and at 10% abv., there's no arguing that it's strong. For someone who's never reviewed a beer before, your bro was pretty spot on. Must run in the family. Thanks again for the support. I would wait a little longer, and check the seals... Take a hydrometer reading after 72 hours and see where you're at if there's no bubbles, but no bubbles may not mean anything bad...

Neophyte home brew guy here. Bought a kit and some basic equipment. Cleansed equipment and following instructions in kit. It states that after 24 hrs I should see bubbles coming up through the pressure release device (water filled tube). Two days and nothing at all. I'm beginning to think that the yeast is dead (I cooled it down to 75% before adding). Should I go out and buy more (maybe liquid yeast). It is just sitting there in cool place about 65, Any suggestions?

Yes, very ironic indeed. I think you'd enjoy the north, we have a unique twist on things up here and we're a pretty welcoming bunch. If you're ever in the Belfast area let me know (eddiebenton at gmail dot com) we can hit a few of the great pubs (we have an independent brewer here called Hilden that supplies a local independent pub with ales and chocolate stout)

Though I do feel cheated that on the other side of the atlantic you have more choice of stout than I do, in the north of ireland all the bars are tied up by guinness.

He didnt say digital hydrometer he said hes the byproduct of the digital age and therefore a simple tool like a hydrometer seems like an antiquated tool these days at least in his opinion. Learn to Read, just a pet peeve of mine when people hastily respond to things.
