There is a brand new Gastropub in Washington DC's Columbia Heights neighborhood, right off of the Columbia Heights metro. It has amazing food and an even better selection of English Ales and other UK brews. I would check it out before the Black Squirrel.

Couple things.

Capitol City Brewing in downtown Baltimore is closed and has been for a while now.

I'd also add "Max's" in Fells Point (downtown Baltimore) to your to-do list, tons of taps but great selection as well.

My personal must-do list for Maryland and beer are the following:

1)Brewer's Art
2)Max's
3)Frisco Grille
4)Flying Dog Tour (and a really fun tap room)
5)Clipper City Tour
6)Stock up at The Perfect Pour in Columbia Md.

There's a Dogfish Head AleHouse in Maryland, in Gaithersburg near one of your targeted stops.

When you're in Ellicott City for Ellicott Mills Brewing Company, a one minute walk up the hill on the same street (other side) is The Judge's Bench, a nice craft beer bar.

Victoria Gastro Pub is a nice upscale pub with 24 mostly craft taps on Snowden River Parkway just off the 100 FWY sort of inbetween Frisco Grille and Ellicott City in the suburban loop of beer stops (Howard County)

As far as D.C., I strongly recommend Pizzeria/Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown, tremendous beer selection and great pizza too.

Also: Dr. Granville Moore's, an outstanding Belgian beer bar.

And for a few authentic German beers, just a five minute safe walk from Union Station is Cafe Berlin where you can sit on the patio and enjoy the afternoon or evening.
